Hi, I’m Dr. Heather Goldthorpe, your Naturopathic Doctor.
About the ND
Dr. Heather was born and raised in North Bay, Ontario. Her interest in health, science, and medicine, led her to pursue an Honours Bachelor of Science degree in Biomedical Sciences from the University of Guelph. Outside of her studies, Heather worked part-time, played sports, and volunteered for various organizations. She also had the opportunity to travel to Peru and Kenya for volunteer initiatives related to international healthcare. During her undergraduate degree, Heather was introduced to herbal medicine while completing her undergraduate thesis on the effects of crategus extract (Hawthorn) on mice heart muscle function.
With Medical school in mind, Heather pursued her education by completing a Masters of Science degree in Cellular and Molecular Medicine at the University of Ottawa. During this period of time, Heather struggled with her own health (poor stress management, anxiety, weight gain, digestive issues), and was overwhelmed by the pressures of her studies, personal life, and perspective on the medical field. She had two options: 1 – continue the way she was going, using every excuse in the book not to change, or 2 – take a moment to step back from years of poor self-care and bad habits, and change for the better. That’s when she decided to make educated changes that greatly improved her quality of life. She developed a passion for clinical nutrition, lifestyle medicine, and alternative therapies, which led her to pursue Naturopathic Medicine. She successfully attained her Masters of Science degree in Cellular and Molecular Medicine, published research, and furthered her education by completing a 4-year Doctor of Naturopathy degree from the Canadian College of Naturopathic Medicine. She also attained a Global Health certificate while aiding in Ometepe, Nicaragua on a medical brigade.
Dr. Heather is a licensed and registered Naturopathic Doctor with the College of Naturopaths of Ontario (CONO), the Canadian Association of Naturopathic Doctors (CAND), and the Ontario Association of Naturopathic Doctors (OAND). Dr. Heather has also attained prescribing rights for Naturopathic Doctors in Ontario.
Dr. Heather welcomes patients of all ages and health concerns into her clinical practice. She has a special interest in hormone health, gastrointestinal conditions, autoimmune disease, and skin concerns, with additional training in thyroid disease management, desiccated thyroid, and bioidentical hormones.
With her extensive background in medical sciences, research, clinical nutrition and botanical medicine, as well as her passion for health and wellness, Dr. Heather provides safe, well-researched, and non-invasive treatments for her patients. She’s passionate about providing the proper resources and therapies to guide her patients into a state of better health, using a variety of therapies including lifestyle and diet education, nutritional supplements, botanical medicine, and TCM/medical acupuncture.
Outside of the office, Dr. Heather enjoys traveling, cooking, international cuisine, music, cinema, and spending time with her family at the cottage.
